Too many times leaders believe that having feelings isn’t for leaders. I’m telling you that empathy takes you a long way as a leader. This doesn’t mean you don’t need to make hard decisions or have difficult conversations with people, it means you’ll be able to do so and still have a good relationship with them – because you care about them. There’s a saying that “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”. Empathy is hard work and it requires strong self-discipline to balance the caring with the hard decisions you may need to make. I’m confident you can do it.
