• Small Habits #1: Idea #259

I’m not sure about you, however for me there are so many things I want to work on sometimes I don’t get started on anything. So let’s start small: ‘Small habits that will boost your well-being at work…Check in with yourself. Ask yourself: How am I doing today? How am I feeling?..Take a few short, quality breaks. The key word here is “quality.” This means doing something that helps you disconnect from work, refuel, and recharge…Practice acceptance of stressful circumstances – and focus on what you can control.’ (HBR) Taking quality breaks is the first small habit I plan to focus on, as I know I’m weak in that area. What will be your focus?

  • Different: Idea #258

I wonder if you’ve ever felt like I do sometimes? My wheels are spinning but I’m not making any progress. Here’s an idea – ‘You’re more likely to unlock a big leap in performance by trying differently than by trying harder. You might be able to work 10% harder, but a different approach might work 10x better. Remain focused on the core problem, but explore a new line of attack. Persistence is not just about effort, but also strategy. Don’t merely try harder, try differently.’ (J.Clear) Join me today in stopping what isn’t working and trying a new approach.

  • Assassins: Idea #257

Were you aware that you have several assassins after you? Or more accurately, after your time? Here are 5 “Time Assassins” that may be keeping you from having success in the areas you want to change. ‘1. The Staller: This is when you sabotage your own success by hesitating on big decisions…2. The Speed Demon: You make rapid decisions (often choosing the first/ quickest/ easiest/ cheapest option)…3. The Supervisor: You have trouble giving up control (usually because you don’t think anyone can do as good of a job as you)…4. The Saver: You’re not comfortable spending money (even if it will make you more money)…5. The Self-Medicator: You work really hard (and then “play” equally hard, often by binge-drinking). This one’s tough to spot, because it’s usually in the form of celebration.’ (J.Bonacolta) Which assassin is killing your time, and how will you defeat them?
