• Behavior: Idea #280

What are the ‘three essential leadership behaviors you need to commit to and protect as you develop professionally. Being future-focused. The higher up the ladder you climb, the farther out you need to think…Being good with people. As you accrue responsibility, it’s easy to give too much attention to high-level strategy and not enough to your relationships…Being able to drive realistic results. More power tends to make leaders more optimistic about what’s achievable. Make an effort to stay grounded.’ (HBR) Which behavior do you need to focus on? For myself I think being future focused is an area of growth, so join me today in improving behaviors.

  • Recognition: Idea #279

Do you want recognition? Well then, ‘Being good at what you do is partially about competence, but not exclusively. Two other things that matter: Reliability. You do what you say you’re going to do – on time and as expected. Enthusiasm. You’re excited to be here and eager to work on this problem. Skills matter, but in many cases it’s your reliability or attitude that separates you from the pack.’ (J.Clear) Do you have what it takes to be recognized?

  • Discipline: Idea #278

The concept of discipline is not something we tend to think about too much. ‘No matter where you want to get to in life, you will have to cross a bridge called discipline. Successful people do not rely on luck or the hope of others doing their work, they model discipline in their daily lives. This bridge of discipline takes a while to build, it isn’t always fun, but once built, it is easier to travel back and forth. Fall in love with the process and build discipline.’ (J.Maxwell) This is a challenging concept, but I accept the challenge. How about you?
