There’s a quote that says “Leadership is influence – nothing more, nothing less.” But is all influence a good thing? I was discussing this recently and thought it might be helpful to understand influence a little better. Like many things in life, influence can be both good and bad. Think for a moment about some of the “stars” we see on TV, and their words or actions. Do they influence us? Maybe. Is it good? Perhaps not. So when we’re trying to evaluate how much we allow someone to influence us, we need to look at the outcome, or results, of what they say and/or do. Is it good, then yes, allow them to influence you.
