• Compliment: Idea #108

Thank You for joining me on my daily learning journey – knowing you’re learning with me helps me feel motivated to keep this up. How does it make you feel when someone says something nice about you? ‘People want to feel special, so compliment them. In the first 30 seconds of meeting someone, say something positive about them, to them, and say it in front of their friends. Complimenting others is the best way to make others feel like they are special.’ (J.Maxwell) As you help others feel special, and are helping them see the positive impact they’re having on you, the feedback will be positive and the support you get from taking the first step are enormous and long-lasting.

  • Procrastination: Idea #107

Procrastination – who can claim to not be guilty of this from time to time? Here are a few strategies to help us break this bad habit. ‘Schedule your deep work. It’s easier to put off work that requires concentration. So build time in your daily calendar to focus…Learn to accept demanding work. Don’t make the mistake of equating easy work with productivity…Create a system for starting new tasks. You’ll be less likely to delay novel tasks if you have a system for approaching them…Use self-compassion. We tend to avoid tasks that stir up negative emotions…Tell yourself, “It’s normal to be disappointed in my past performance. I’m learning through experience.”’ (HBR) Wow! Join me in putting this into practice starting today!

  • Brilliance: Idea #106

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to always have brilliant ideas? ‘It is nearly impossible to have your best idea the first time you think about something. The most likely way to uncover important insights is to frequently revisit a problem. The longer you’re in the game, the more ideas bubble up to the surface. Time unlocks insights.’ (J.Clear) It takes time for great ideas to solidify, and many times we’re just too impatient. Take some time to slow down, to think about ideas over a period of time, and you’ll discover that your ideas grow in value.
