• Goals: Idea #17

‘Begin With The End In Mind.’ (S.R.Covey) Do you know that if you don’t know where you’re going you’ll definitely get there. Success in life includes knowing your end goal, as you first need to know in your mind where you want to end up, and then you can put actions around your plans to get there. The end that we have in mind needs to be well defined or we may miss it when we achieve it. If you don’t plan your finish line, others will plan it for you – and that end may not be the finish you were hoping for in life.

  • Persistence: Idea #16

Persistence. What does that look like to you? I see persistence as an attitude of not giving up, of trying again and again even when things never seem to quite go as we wish they would go. It means trying different approaches to a problem when the first or second or fiftieth attempt didn’t work. Persistence is understanding that success generally isn’t easy, there’s a lot of work that isn’t seen by others, however when repeated with continuous improvement – the outcome is wonderful.

  • Mistakes: Idea #15

‘The Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward. First, create a mechanism of self-disclosure regarding behavior you regret. Second, reckon with your regret through self-compassion, not suppressing them, but not exaggerating or overidentifying with them either. The third step follows naturally: practice self-distancing by detaching yourself from your behavior through time, space, and language.’ (D.Pink) To paraphrase this – use your mistakes as learning lessons to help you grow, don’t use them as clubs to beat up yourself.
