• Passive: Idea #32

Sometimes it benefits us to be passive: to allow life to come to us and unfold without force. Other times it benefits us to be aggressive: to bend the world to our will and actively shape the life we want. Are you being too passive or too aggressive right now? (J.Clear) How can you know when to be passive or aggressive? Perhaps a couple of thoughts to help guide us. Be passive when your next steps are unclear and you don’t know what is next. Be passive when aggression would be harmful to others. Be aggressive when progress seems stuck, or when others are blocking your development and growth. Don’t let the negativity of others stop you from moving on with your life.

  • Risk: Idea #31

Are you afraid of taking risks? What do you think will happen if you try to avoid all risks? Can you be successful and develop as a person without risk? Can you achieve great things without taking a risk? I say NO! Risk is a part of life, and it’s how we assess risk, how we manage risk, and how we accept the outcomes of reasonable risk that help determine who we are and what we become. ‘In order to advance in life, you must take that risk…Take a chance, lead with intention, and simply take the risk!’ (J.Maxwell) You can’t get to a new destination in life if you stick to what’s comfortable where you’re at now. Leave the easy behind, take on the unknown, and surprise yourself.

  • Resilience: Idea #30

Resilience is a word we hear a lot these days, however, exactly what is it? How do we know when we have it? How can we develop resilience? One way of describing resilience is having an attitude of never quitting, never saying “I give up”. Have I ever thought about giving up – for sure. And I’m sure that’s not uncommon. Did I give up – NO! I keep trying even though progress seems slow, even though it feels like “2 steps forward, 1 step back”. Another way of looking at resilience is imagining a rubber ball – if you throw it against the wall it bounces back. However, if you throw a small sandbag, it hits the wall and slides to the floor where it stays. Ask yourself, “am I a rubber ball or a sandbag today”? Make sure you choose being a rubber ball.
