• Bounce: Idea #526

Idea #30 – Resilience is a word we hear a lot these days, however, exactly what is it? How do we know when we have it? How can we develop resilience? One way of describing resilience is having an attitude of never quitting, never saying “I give up”. Have I ever thought about giving up – for sure. And I’m sure that’s not uncommon. Did I give up – NO! I keep trying even though progress seems slow, even though it feels like “2 steps forward, 1 step back”. Another way of looking at resilience is imagining a rubber ball – if you throw it against the wall it bounces back. However, if you throw a small sandbag, it hits the wall and slides to the floor where it stays. Ask yourself, “am I a rubber ball or a sandbag today”? Make sure you choose being a rubber ball.

  • Practice: Idea #525

Some days I think that the challenges are never going to quit, and it seems that hard times are continuing forever. When I think about quitting, I remember that ‘Resilience isn’t something we’re born with or without. It’s a skill we can acquire and sharpen at any time, and one of our main ways to do that is by practicing acceptance.’ (U) Accept what comes your way, and think about what the future can look like. ‘Don’t just visualize success at the end. Visualize the process. Don’t just picture yourself winning. Picture the steps it takes to get there.’ (D.Bokhari) What do your steps look like?

  • Great: Idea #524

Is there someone you admire, that you see as a great person? ‘Those who collaborate understand that the key to greatness is in the people around them. Greatness comes from engaging with others and inviting them into your journey. The people that surround you, who have joined you in that journey, allow you to be bigger and accomplish greater things.’ (J.Maxwell) Would you like to be known as a “great person” in life, or be forgotten as time passes? This isn’t about being great to highlight ourselves, it’s about what we can achieve for the greater good if we work with others.
