• Joy: Idea #78

‘When you are around people with joy, they are a joy to be with. It’s a wonderful thing to have joy – it’s contagious – it’s a choice.’ (J.Maxwell) When you work with joyful people, the experience is fun, happy, and time flies. Having joy doesn’t mean everything is always going smoothly, or everything is going your way. It means we have decided that no matter what happens we will find the “silver lining” in the situation, the opportunity in the challenge, and we won’t allow our circumstances to dictate how we respond to others. Today is a good day to check up on yourself, are you a person with joy?

  • Grateful: Idea #77

‘We’ve heard it said that happy people are not always grateful, but grateful people are almost always happy.’ (YB) One way to maintain an attitude of gratefulness is to regularly stop and list five things we’re thankful for. I’m grateful that I have a fantastic group of leaders and high-performance frontline people in my teams. I’m grateful for my family and how they support me in my work. I’m grateful to be a part of a great company, working at Nielsen where I have the opportunity to use my skills and do things I really enjoy. I’m grateful for the health I enjoy. And I’m grateful to have this opportunity to share my growth and development journey with you. What are the five things you’re grateful for today?

  • Teachable: Idea #76

‘Humility gives us the ability to learn – it makes us teachable.’ (J.Maxwell) Have you ever tried to teach someone and it became obvious they didn’t want to learn? How frustrated does that make you feel? I know that it’s easy for me to think I already “know it all” and don’t need to learn from others, and that’s when I get in trouble (especially with my family). So I try to keep reminding myself I still don’t know everything, I still need to learn from others. That spirit of humility allows us to acknowledge the gap we have in our understanding, and that’s when the learning can happen. A question for yourself: How teachable are you?
