One of these characteristics is emotional capacity – the ability to experience adversity and still successfully make it through to the other side. You develop emotional capacity through experience. You go through hard things today so you can handle and develop the emotional capacity to do harder things tomorrow. You need emotional strength and capacity in addition to your gifts in order to succeed.’ (J.Maxwell) Although it may be tough, the decision to persevere demonstrates which road you’re traveling.

There’s a lot of research around the concept that we become what we think about. So how do we decide what to think about if we want to become a person of character and value? ‘Summing it all up, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious – the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly’ (P) Sounds like the best idea is to avoid spending any time thinking on the bad and ugly, the worst of people, and instead focus on what is good – the best. Do you ever feel like you’ve missed out, that your opportunity has passed you by? Well, ‘going through life is like driving a car; if you keep your eyes on the road you already passed, you’ll miss all the wonders of what’s ahead, and you will not see the obstacles coming until it’s too late.
