• Communication: Idea #363

‘Truett Cathy consistently reminded his employees to respond to customers saying, “my pleasure” instead of “you’re welcome” because he loved the message that it was Chick-fil-A’s pleasure to serve their customers. Leaders are repeaters – he had to consistently communicate this message to his team in order to see results. Is it a pleasure for you to serve the customers in your business? What are those messages that you want to consistently communicate as a leader?’ (J.Maxwell) How well do we communicate? Let’s work on improving what we say, not just once, but ongoing.

  • Unselfish: Idea #362

Why is it so hard to be unselfish? Maybe not for you, but it is for me. ‘To be unselfish means to think of ourselves less. It does not mean thinking less of ourselves or being self-deprecating. When you begin living unselfishly, it can be emotionally overwhelming, but as Andy Stanley says, “Do for one what you wish you could do for anyone and everyone.” If you want to be a better servant leader, be unselfish and think of yourself less.’ (J.Maxwell) As we focus on others instead of ourselves, the rewards are much bigger than we can imagine, and our personal growth is exponential.

  • Honest: Idea #361

A question I know I need to keep asking myself regularly is: Am I an honest person? ‘We all want to have honest relationships and be around people who are honest. Honest people are truthful, what they say is reflected in what they do. They have a sense of character and authenticity. Everyone has good days and bad days, and when we admit that and walk through life in the middle of the road, we develop credibility and live honestly.’ (J.Maxwell) If you want to grow professionally, working hard on being honest will take you a long way.
