• Change: Idea #10

‘To achieve a goal you have never achieved before, you must start doing things you have never done before.’ (J.Stuart) Many initiatives or projects require significant behavioral change, something we don’t think about or plan for often enough. Behavioral changes are hard, especially when we think about changing ourselves. Having a good strategy isn’t enough, you need actionable steps to take to execute the change you want. So, if you want to achieve your goals, make sure you have actionable steps that allow you to measure your progress along the way to your final goal.

  • Common Sense: Idea #9

‘Use good judgment in all situations. There will be no additional rules…. Set both your personal and professional goals high. We have great confidence in your ability to achieve them’. (Nordstrom Rule #1) This approach to working with our peers and our teams is what builds trust, enables exponential achievements, and develops high-performing teams. If you need to rely on rules and policies for all your decisions you are limiting your ability to excel. If you’re developing your good judgment (or “common sense”) you’ll find yourself making the best decisions most of the time, without the stress or concern you’ll be a failure. Your manager will appreciate your initiative and leadership.

  • Inspire: Idea #8

How can you inspire other people? Why should we care about inspiring others? As a people leader OR influencer, we want to inspire others to listen, learn, and change for the better. If we care about others, we also want to help them grow and develop as individuals. The model given by S.M.R. Covey on “how to inspire” includes: model what you want to share – go first, then show trust to others by connecting with them and caring for them, and finally connect with purpose – as purpose brings out the best in others. All of this is how you can inspire others.
