• Approval: Idea #319

It’s easy to fall into the trap of trying to win the approval of others in all we do. ‘What price do you pay for approval? Are you consistently being yourself, or do you become the person others want you to be? When you can look at your true self and approve of yourself, you will do well in life. The first person you should want to have approval from is yourself. Approve of yourself today.’ (J.Maxwell) It feels so good to have the approval of others, however, if I can’t be true to who I am I’ll end up miserable. Are you being true to yourself today?

  • Apologize: Idea #318

Do you find yourself apologizing a lot? ‘The more we unnecessarily apologize, the less confidence we subconsciously show (to ourselves and others). Here’s what to say instead:
    1. Sorry for rescheduling → Thanks for being flexible!
    2. Sorry for being late → Thanks so much for waiting.
    3. Sorry for bothering you → Thanks for carving out time.
    4. Sorry for venting → Thanks for listening.
    5. Sorry I had to take that call → Thanks for your patience!
    6. Sorry for jumping in → I have an idea that may help.
    7. Sorry for the mistake → Thanks for catching that!
    8. Sorry, I don’t get it → Could you repeat that? I just want to be clear.
    9. Sorry, does that make sense? → I’m happy to answer any questions!’ (J.Bonacolta)
Wow! I’ve got a bit of work to do on myself, and think about how I respond. How about you?

  • Attention: Idea #317

Arguably the most important skill is controlling your attention. This goes beyond merely avoiding distractions. The deeper skill is finding the highest and best use for your time, given what is important to you. More than anything else, controlling your attention is about being able to figure out what you should be working on and identifying what truly moves the needle.’ (J.Clear) Are you easily distracted? Does your mobile device take too much of your time? Think with me on where your attention is, and how you can better control it.
