• Purpose: Idea #497

There are many factors involved in being successful, but I think ‘Success is knowing your purpose in life. Until we know why we are here, how can we know if we are successful? Our calling or mission demands that we know what our purpose is. You can find your purpose by figuring out what your passion is and what your strengths are. There are two great days in a person’s life: the day they are born and the day they discover why.’ (J.Maxwell) Do you know why you were born? Maybe today is the day you should stop and spend some time in deep thought, pondering who you are.

  • Effort: Idea #496

Do you look forward to difficulties? I know I don’t. However, ‘Persistence and resilience only come from having been given the chance to work through difficult problems.’ (G.Tulley) Ok, and so what does that look like in everyday life? ‘Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did.’ (N.Gingrich) That sounds like a lot of effort, and we may ask ourselves, is it really worth it? I say YES, because as we persevere, persist, and build resilience, we’ll find ourselves in the company of all the other successful people we admire.

  • Authenticity: Idea #495

How can we grow our authenticity? One idea is to ‘Embrace honesty when you make mistakes. People respect leaders who openly admit when they are wrong and work to make things right. When you are willing to be vulnerable – accepting and learning from your mistakes and failures – you and your team can move forward. Authenticity doesn’t guarantee success, but inauthenticity guarantees failure.’ (J.Maxwell) How authentic are you willing to be today? It does make you vulnerable, but also much more valuable. It’s worth it in my opinion.
